The Wensleydale Heifer is a restaurant with rooms in the Yorkshire Dales, and it takes its fish and chips seriously enough to have once set a Guinness record for the biggest portion. Its Giant Slayer Challenge is a more manageable monster: a 2.5kg plate of fish and chips with all the trimmings. You need to finish it in one sitting with no toilet breaks. There's no free meal, but the prize haul is one of the best in the country, from a medal to a shot at free fish and chips for a whole year.
What you'll be eating
Around 2.5kg of fish and chips with mushy peas, buttered bread, tartare sauce, gravy, curry sauce and scraps.
What you win
Finishers get a certificate, a photo on the wall of fame and a Giant Slayer medal. Wear the medal on your next visit for a free Giant Slayer cocktail or mocktail. You're also entered into a draw for free large fish and chips every month for a year, plus the Giant Slayer's Trophy.
Strategy tips
Available every lunch and dinner except Sunday lunch. It's one sitting with no toilet breaks, so go easy on the sauces early on.
