Cattlemen's 96oz Steak Challenge

Cattlemen's is a steak restaurant in the centre of Harrogate, and its steak challenge has been running for around 20 years. A 72oz rump steak comes with fries, onion rings and salad, bringing the plate to 96oz, or 6lb. You've got an hour, and the restaurant keeps a board of the fastest times, with some famous competitive eaters on it.

What you win

Finish within an hour and the meal is free, plus a place on the fastest times board. Fail and it's £85.

Strategy tips

You need to give 48 hours' notice and pay a £40 deposit, so book by phone. No sharing. Ask for the steak cooked rare or medium rare, as well done steak is much harder to chew through.
